Dental Implants

Dental implants are the modern solutions for tooth loss.

Whatever the reason for your missing tooth or teeth— periodontitis, tooth decay, or injury— Sensational Smiles of Charleston can help. Dr. Richard Rutecki is a full service dentist who places implants and can help restore or enhance the look of your smile through this procedure. An astounding number of patients with missing teeth prefer restoration through this means, and it may be time you consider doing the same. Here’s a quick discussion on implants and why it may be the solution you need.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots surgically implanted into the jaw, and act as an anchor to support restorations. Over the course of a few months, the appliance naturally integrates into your jawbone. This aspect alone makes it sturdier and more reliable than conventional dentures or bridges. The procedure is simple and results in beautiful implants that look and feel just like natural teeth. Implants can function as single tooth replacement, which has a crown cemented on top of it much the same as crowning a real tooth. The key fact here is that a missing tooth restored this way is a long-term solution. Implants and their crowns do not get future cavities like conventional crowns or bridges. Implants may also function to support and retain dentures or partials.

Mini dental implants (small, tooth pick sized) may be utilized to help stabilize dentures as well.  We, at Sensational Smiles of Charleston, view mini dental implants as a way to eliminate the need for denture adhesive.  Mini dental implants help dentures stay in, but do not bear the forces of chewing as traditional implants do.  For many people, just keeping the dentures in is most of the battle.  Although mini dental implants are much skinnier than traditional implants, they are longer and require more length of bone.  More mini implants are placed to gain strength in numbers as well.  Often we will place 6 to 8 mini dental implants for the top and 4 to 5 on the lower.  Mini dental implants costs $500.00 each.  If we are using your existing denture that was not recently made here, there will be an additional conversion fee of $750.00.  If your dentures are loosely fitting to your gums, this conversion will also help by relining your denture.

Mini dental implants are more susceptible to complications and failures from health issues and medications or habits such as smoking, alcohol consumption, grinding of teeth, etc.
